Radio Web casting Vs. Radio Broadcasts

Radio web casting or internet radio broadcasting refers to the transmission of audio through the internet. Online free radio broadcasting has become quite a revolution in the world of media, permitting anyone to transmit their own programs, from independent music to news.

And what about classic radio? While radio webcasting uses the internet, radio broadcasts use radio waves that travel through the atmosphere. Although is common to find radio broadcasting companies to have an online versions of their programming, it's not the general rule.

Are There Any Other Differences

Besides the physical means that both kinds of radio use, yes. The first one of them regards the level of interactivity that the user has with the radio. In the case of webcast radio, the user can choose what to hear, when to hear it and for how long. That means that he doesn't need to follow a predetermined schedule imposed by the webcaster. Even more, you may be able to download a determined transmission for hearing it later. Let's say that you want to hear the comments on the latest NBA match but the webcaster transmits it when you are at an important family dinner. Should that mean that you have to lose the opportunity to hear the comments? No! Just download the file into your computer, record it on a CD and hear it in your car while driving to work, or returning home.

In the case of traditional radio, you are limited. Classic radio has determined schedules that practically imposes it's listeners to adapt their day to their transmissions. Although in the good old days of the 20th century it was possible to do it, today it's very hard. The day by day routine of the 21st century human obligates him to be a master of time management if he wishes to accomplish his proposed goals.

The second difference is the geographical limitation imposed by classic radio. Users who listen to a determined station can't hear it outside their locality. Try it; search your favorite radio stations when traveling from one state to another. You will find that your favorite hard rock station frequency transmits, in other state, country music.

With internet radio that doesn't happen. You will be able to hear it at any part of the world. Doesn't matter if you are in vacations in Europe, you only need a computer and internet access for hearing your favorite programs. Or you may even download them for the trip back to the US.
