Benefits of Live Webcasting

The main benefit of live webcasting is cost. If you produce a low cost program and tried to broadcast it through normal TV you would find yourself in a nearly impossible crusade. Network television uses its 24 hour programming with the highest possible efficiency, trying to generate the biggest amount of revenue. It's normal that they want to do this;
they are private companies after all. Why do they have to suffer with their income on behalf of a show with low ratings?

Cable TV may be different, though. You may find yourself with the possibility to transmit your show. But forget about your low budget. Putting it in cable TV will cost you a big lump of money. You only need to think about the equipment you will require for transmitting the show to a satellite. Thanks to its low cost, live streaming webcast makes this possible.

The second benefit is the ease of operation. You only need off the shelf equipment: a camera with digital output, a computer, a webpage and a broadband internet access to transmit your show to the entire world (or at least those who wish to see it).

The third and final benefit is that considering the little investment that is required, you could increase your revenue by finding sponsors for your live internet broadcasting. Although, it's not easy.

If you want to have ads in your program, you will have to show your possible sponsors how many people watch your show, their level of income and their interests. Unless you are a marketing specialist, you will have to buy this service from a specialized company to make the study.

What are its Limitations?

There are two. The first is the inability to have multiple takes. Imagine you are going to record live video webcasts that discuss the application of dungeon and dragons tactics to the world of business and wish to have, once in a while, a close lookup to one of the expositors, without losing the view of all of them. You won't be able to do it. Unless, of course, you start using the zoom in your camera, which isn't recommended. It may be annoying for your viewers.

Although it depends on the eye of the beholder, a time stamp can be seen as the other limitation. Basically, it is like a signature imposed by a computer, which tells at which time did a determined recording occur. xample, in webcast education it is used to guarantee that the student did actually see the course (students are asked to click on a determined time period as a way to certify their presence).

As you have seen, live webcast television has become one more media to our almost infinite source of news. And all thanks to the internet. Considering that these new methods of communication weren't thought about twenty years ago by the majority of the population (only in science fiction books), one only has to wonder what new kind of applications could we find to live webcasting.
