Webcast and Music Go Hand-in-HandPrior AnnouncementsThe webcaster shall not be able to make advanced announcements on the music he will play. He may only mention one or two artists to show what kind of music he plays.Archived ProgramsIf the webcaster archives programs, their duration cannot be less than five hours. Additionally, those programs can't be available for more than two weeks.Continuous ProgrammingLooped programs, those that repeat themselves each time they finish, cannot have duration of less than three hours.
Program RepetitionThe programs that have duration of less than one hour cannot be repeated more than three times in two weeks. If they have duration of more than an hour, they can't be repeated more than four times in two weeks.IdentificationA webcaster needs to identify the sound recording, the album and the artist.Artists and AdvertisementThe webcaster will not be able to suggest that an artist has a relation with a determined service or product.Webcast CopyingIn the case, the webmaster has the technology to do it; he will need to disable the possibility of copying the webcast. Additionally, he won't encourage copying to his listeners.Measures for Technical ProtectionThe webcaster must transmit, if it is technically feasible, the measures that sound recording copyright owners use for identifying and protecting copyrighted material.No ScanningThe webcaster will have to cooperate with copyright owners for preventing the use of devices to scan their transmissions, especially those that look for a determined recording.No BootlegsAll transmissions made by the webcaster must be from legal copies. They may not use bootlegs or prereleases.Channel SwitchingThe webcaster will not be able to obligate the receiver to change channels.Copyright InformationIf it technically viable, the webcaster shall attach in the transmission encoded information with the song title, the artist and any related data.As you can see web casting copyrighted music isn't easy for small web casters. If you were wondering how to webcast music that was copyrighted, you now know that there are a lot of issues that need to be accepted. Of course, a webcaster can choose to webcast music that isn't under the umbrella of the RIAA and its members. Like in the initial example, classical music web casting may fall within that area.
