Webcasting - It Could Take Your Company A Long WayAs more businesses are coming to understand the power of broadcasting audio and video online - technology known as webcasting - companies are finding ways to incorporate these productions into their communication strategies. A company webcast can fulfill many functions, from corporate training to customer relations.Although still in its infancy, broadcasting over Internet sites adds an interactive element that, in the presence of sufficient content, can generate a "following" for a given content set whether that be technology reviews from a computer company or the popular winter Olympics webcast of sporting events. Microsoft, for instance, has an extensive library of online technology-based webcasts as do various IT entities. Webcasts, like any streaming media application, can be delivered in two ways, "on demand" and "real time." In an "on demand" scenario the video file is stored on a server and accessed by individual users. "Real time," as the name implies, is streaming video content that is consumed as it is being broadcast and is the Internet equivalent of television. How Does The User Receive The Webcast?Receiving webcast content for the user is not complicated and is usually accomplished with either the Windows Media Player or the Real Player. Webcast tutorials generally accompany the content and guide players to download or to update their media player software as required. Both the Windows Media and Real players are free for download. Some companies, like CNN, are experimenting with webcasting subscriptions and custom interfaces. The jury is still out as to whether this model will survive the consumer test. Webcasting companies and other entities using the medium normally publish a schedule of content not unlike a "TV guide" to help users locate the content they need or want. What are the Benefits of Webcasting?By providing material that is normally printed or mailed in a webcast format, companies translate the information into an easily understood format and greatly reduce their production costs. A webcast can reach as many people as require the information - one or thousands and by broadcasting meetings or workshops online, companies can save money on sending busy executives and department heads to conferences and conventions. Any time that a business shows it is embracing a new technology it enhances its own corporate image.Continue to: What Could Your Company Webcast Related ArticlesWebcasting Software - How Does It Work?Webcasting Technology - The Latest Trends Webcasting Services - How To Gain The Maximum Out of It?
